FOR LOAN / WVTB 16.3HH CHESTNUT GELDING0 He was diagnosed 2 years ago with kissing spines due to osteoarthritis in his left hock. Thankfully no surgery was required, and Harry was treated with steroid injections to his back and hock and had follow up sessions of shock wave therapy. After a period of rehabilitation, and with careful fitness management, Harry has displayed no further problems; he is now back in full work, and has been out competing at affiliated dressage, has been cross country schooling and competing, on numerous sponsored rides and show jumping competitions and we have had no issues at all. I have continued to be very careful that his weekly routine includes lungeing and jumping sessions, together with lots of energetic hacking in Windsor Great Park at weekends. I have recently spoken to my vet who confirmed that there is no reason why Harry could not embark on a hunting or eventing career (to pre-novice level) - but he will not be able to withstand the physical strain that advanced level dressage would put on his hocks. Eamon also said that Harry might have to have further treatment in the future, whether shock wave therapy or injections into the hock, but this would entirely depend on his management. The right home for Harry is vital, which is why my first recourse was to a long term loan, and possibly to a pony / club or hunting home.
